Q. How do I request a print book as a distance student?

I'm an on-line student in California. I need to checkout a few books for a research paper. Not sure how, please advise.

Answer

Access Services for Distance Students

As a distance student you can use our interlibrary loan (ILL) system to request physical books. Here is the ILL page which has a login/registration link. When you login for the first time you will be asked some registration questions.

Under "New Request" select "Book" (see image below) and fill out the information in the form. When done, click "submit" at the bottom of the page. It is highly recommended that you read the ILL policies so you fully understand the process.

Important: the Library pays for the postage to send the book to you, but you pay for the postage when you mail it back.
